He was widely acknowledged as the Caliph of Islam, the successor to the power of the followers of the prophet Muhammed. The head of the Ottoman Empire wasn’t just a secular ruler. And like the Greek idea, it might even work - for a while. (Hundreds of thousands of Turks and Muslims were forced out of Greece during the same period of time.)īut now it’s the Turks who have their own Big Idea and, like the Greek one, it’s a dream of turning east to restore their ancient imperial glory. Hundreds of thousands of Greeks fled or were kicked out ofthe emerging republic of Turkey in a pattern that would continue until almost the last remaining Greeks left the city now officially known as Istanbul a generation ago. It was a big idea and it led to the biggest catastrophe in modern Greek history: Turkish armies under the formidable general Mustafa Kemal (later Atatürk) drove the Greeks into the sea. The Ottoman Empire had lost World War One and was breaking up it was obviously time for Greece to restore the Byzantine Empire by conquering what is now the west coast of Turkey and other Greek-inhabited regions of modern Turkey, including the ancient Greek imperial capital of Constantinople. ![]() Back when a Venezilos was the prime minister of Greece (rather than just the finance minister as is the case today), he had a Big Idea: the famous Μεγάλη Ιδέα. At first it might be a bit boring, but later in the game, when you have access to more things to develop and build, you will understand the true power of this game. Secondly, the gameplay the game has has much more potentional than the mass says. Lay two screenshots of both games next to eachother, and you have the proof. First of all, the graphics are much much better than RTW. Many times is being said that this game isn't as good as RTW (graphically and gameplay) so it automatically gets a low grade. In the reviews the game is way too much compared with RTW. It's also clear that the user ratings are much higher than the mass gives.
